My name is Walter Alexander Sorto, i am from El Salvador.
I am 28 years old. I have been incarcerated since August 20, 2002. I was sent to prison for a crime i did not commit, i don't even know what happened. Whoever did the crime is someone else and i am being punished for something i did not do.

The person who did that is a man i only saw a couple of occasions, just because of that and for not being able to speak English the State blamed me for something they know all too well i am innocent of. The person who committed the crime has already confessed to the crime, but even when they know about this they did not want to let me go. And given that i did not have the funds to hire an attorney so that he in turn could hire a private investigator to do a thorough investigation and prove to the State that i am innocent. But since i did not have the funds that is why i find myself in this place now. Most of times the State has the upper hand because they appoint you an attorney to help you but the truth is that they do not help you since you are not the one who's paying them, it's the State. That is why they don't try to help the people. That is also one of the reasons why i could not do a thing, and i don't speak English i did not even know what was happening. My attorney lied to me, he told me everything was going well but he did not even visit me to let me know how the case was going, he didn't visit me at all.

I don't have a family here other than my three daughters, my sister and my aunt, who is like a mother to me and my mother and father live in El Salvador. I love my family dearly, i miss my daughters a lot since they are still little. That is why i am fighting for my life so that hopefully one day i can be with them all again. Sometimes i feel so depresssed i just ask God to give me the strength to go on. I have faith in God that He will help me i just have to be a little more patient for in this solitude which i find myself in only God is with me.

Hallo,
mein Name ist Walter Alexander Sorto, ich stamme aus El Salvador.
Ich bin 28 Jahre alt. Ich bin seit dem 20. August 2002 inhaftiert. Ich wurde ins Gefängnis geschickt für ein Verbrechen, dass ich nicht begangen habe, von dem ich nicht einmal weiß was passierte. Wer auch immer dieses Verbrechen begangen hat ist jemand anderes und ich werde für etwas bestraft, das ich nicht getan habe.

Die Person die das getan hat ist ein Mann den ich nur einige male gesehen habe, nur weil ich kein Englisch spreche macht der Staat mich für etwas verantwortlich, wobei alle nur zu genau wissen, dass ich unschuldig bin. Die Person, die das Verbrechen begangen hat, hat dies bereits gestanden aber obwohl sie dies wissen, lassen sie mich nicht gehen. Hinzu kommt noch, dass ich keine Ersparnisse hatte um mir einen Anwalt zu leisten, der dann wiederum einen Privatdetektiv engagieren konnte um eine gründliche Untersuchung zu machen um dem Staat meine Unschuld zu beweisen. Und da ich dieses Geld nicht hatte sitze ich nun hier an diesem Ort. Meistens hat der Staat die Oberhand weil sie dir einen Anwalt aussuchen, um dir zu helfen aber die Wahrheit ist, dass sie überhaupt nicht helfen, da du ja auch nicht derjenige bist, der ihn bezahlt sondern der Staat. Daher versuchen sie erst gar nicht den Leuten zu helfen. Das ist also einer der Gründe warum ich nichts tun konnte und ich spreche kein Englisch daher wusste ich nichtmal was da passierte. Mein Anwalt hat mich angelogen, er hat mir erzählt das alles gut läuft dabei hat er mich nichtmal besucht um mir zu erzählen wie der Fall läuft, er hat mich gar nicht besucht.

Ich habe hier keine Familie, meine drei Töchter, meine Schwester, meine Tante die wie eine Mutter für mich ist und meine Mutter und mein Vater leben in El Salvador. Ich liebe meine Familie innig und ich vermisse meine Töchter sehr, da sie auch noch sehr klein sind. Daher kämpfe ich um mein Leben damit ich hoffentlich eines Tages wieder mit allen zusammen sein kann. Manchmal fühle ich mich so deprimiert, ich bitte Gott mir die Kraft zu geben weiter zu machen. Ich glaube an Gott, er wird mir helfen. Ich muss nur etwas geduldiger werden, in dieser Einsamkeit in der ich mich befinde ist nur Gott bei mir.
